Monty Python’s Life of Brian

February 23 @ 2:05 pm - 3:48 pm

Returning to cinemas for it’s 40th Anniversary, in glorious standard definition and mono-sound, Monty Python delivers a scathing, anarchic satire of both religion and Hollywood’s depiction of all things biblical with their 1979 feature film Life of Brian.

Highly controversial upon its original release and banned in several countries, the film is now frequently ranked as the greatest comedy feature of all time by magazines and media outlets around the world. As Monty Python member Terry Gilliam says, “It rips bare and makes you laugh at the world we’ve created for ourselves.”

Audiences will be able to join in the celebrations with a commemorative pack, available at cinema screenings on Thursday 18 April.

Set in 33 A.D. Judea, where exasperated Romans are trying to impose some order, it is a time of chaos and change with no shortage of messiahs and followers willing to believe in them. At its centre is Brian Cohen, a reluctant would-be messiah who rises to prominence as a result of a series of absurd circumstances providing ample opportunity for the entire Monty Python ensemble (Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin) to shine in multiple roles as they question everyone and everything from ex-lepers, Pontius Pilate and the art of haggling, to revolutionaries, crazy prophets, religious fanaticism, Roman centurions and crucifixion.

Important Coronavirus Update:

An Important Message from Mill No. 5:

After monitoring the Coronavirus situation we’ve come to the conclusion that it is our responsibility to be proactive leaders in our community. It is clear that the recommendation to practice social distancing and to avoid large gatherings is essential to slowing the spread of the infection, which is the key to avoiding the overwhelm on the medical system that many countries are now facing.

This being said, we also acknowledge the hardships that small businesses and entrepreneurs will face as more and more events and spaces close.

It is clear that the situation will change, and that we will need to be constantly monitoring, communicating and adjusting plans. For now, this is our plan:

Coffee and Cotton will remain open. We will expand on our serve safe practices with extended sanitization of surfaces. We will have to continuously monitor this decision as well.

-The Shops will be open based on their own individual preferences. Please check in with your favorite shops to see what hours they will be keeping.

-The Farm Market will run as a limited event. We understand that the farmers and producers rely heavily on market sales, and that many of our customers depend on the food they purchase on Sundays. We will re-evaluate this decision daily and work on precautions and sanitary procedures as well.

A Little Bazaar, The Luna Theater and Dows will be closed for the remainder of the month of March

If you would like to support Mill No. 5 during these difficult times, you can purchase an e-gift card which can be used at Coffee and Cotton, Dows Soda Fountain, and The Luna Theater.
