Sutra Studio’s Book Club
If you are looking for a way to connect with other yogis and mindful enthusiasts, or you are just looking for a great memoir to read and discuss within a virtual community, then you may want to take part in Sutra Studio’s Virtual Dharma Book Club. This coming March 4 will be the third time the studio has offered this virtual event since they moved all of their classes into the virtual world, almost a year ago.
The current book the group is reading is: In Love With the World, a memoir by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. Yongey is a Tibetan Budest Monk who is a celebrity of sorts in the mind training world as he comes from a long lineage of mind training practitioners who lead in monasteries in the Himalayan region. Wanting to search for what it feels like to be normal, he runs away from his home, sheds his robes and grows out his hair to conceal his identity and lives in hiding in India. In the end he does return and a few years later, he writes this memoir, recounting his life in hiding.
Although Sutra Studio is influenced greatly by Buddhism, the studio and all of it’s virtual events are open to all. Understanding the thousands of years of techniques on how to train your mind and body without worshipping anything is part of the overall teachings. The teachers at the studio have really enjoyed reading these books with their students who have been looking for more intense reading choices now that they have a bit more free time. These are books that owner Jenn Howell believes everyone should read, regardless of their want to train their minds or bodies.
More information on this virtual book club and all of Sutra Studio’s virtual events can be found online.
