Lowell Women’s Week
Turning our attention outside of Mill No. 5, we recently spoke to Resi Polixa, Park Ranger at the Lowell National Historical Park and Lowell Women’s Week Committee member regarding plans for these two organizations when celebrating Women for the month of March. International Women’s Day is March 8 while Women’s History Month is celebrated for the whole month of March.
Lowell Women’s Week will be celebrating virtual events all month long.
March 1: an online event will see committee members and local government officials kicking off Lowell Women’s Week events.
March 8: A panel of women in the community who have overcome personal challenges in their lives.
March 12: Because of Her Awards, recognizing community members for outstanding service within the community. Nominations are due March 1. To nominate someone, click here.
Last year, to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the 100th Amendment the Lowell National Historical Park created, Women’s Activism in Lowell, a virtual exhibit celebrating the rich history of women taking on activism and causes for social justice. “You can go all the way back to the Mill Girls who started strikes in the 1830s to fight for better workers rights (but) that kind of activism carries on into the present day. This exhibit is highlighting some of those individuals who have taken on that activism cause.” Resi states.
