The Luna Theater Returns

The Luna Theater has reopened its doors, kicking off with community staple, Weirdo Wednesdays, a sci-fi weekly screening for fans of the genre. It has been over a year since the theater has welcomed guests, and since its temporary closure due to Covid 19, many changes and improvements have been made. A 4k projector, bigger screen and updated sound system have been meticulously installed to allow a wider range of films to be screened and to provide for a better customer experience.

Having an independent movie theater was always part of the Mill No. 5 vision for owner Jim Lichoulas. Lichoulas’ love for history and movie theaters is evident in the design of The Luna Theater, which echoes Lowell’s historic movie palaces with their ornate décor and heightened visual and theatrical experience. Wanting to keep an art house feel, the movies shown are not those which can be seen at multiplex theater chains. The Luna Theater shows documentaries, B-movies, independent films, and special film series. This month, the theater is partnering with UML to present a Philosophy and Film Series.

In an effort to create the safest possible environment for their community Covid 19 policies have been put into effect. Masks must be worn at all times while seated, when not eating or drinking, and proof of vaccination or a negative covid test are required. More details can be found on their website. In addition, Masked Matinees will occur for the first showings on Saturdays. Masks will be mandatory for the entire show and no concessions will be sold.
